Brief synopsis

Brief Synopsis:



In my music video, to the song “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell, about the environment, I will be using two different representations. One of the representations is corporations that are degrading the environment, the second representation is people who are trying to save the environment.

The representation about corporations that are degrading the environment will include images of things that are destroying our environment such as power stations; however, it will also include videos of businessmen wearing suits, leaving offices and walking to their cars. I am using businessmen because many of them drive into a city daily to get to work and they are not making any effort to save the environment. I know that some of them but a large majority are not making an effort to help save our planet. My music video will start with young people in suits leaving the office and walking to their car, as the music video goes on, the age of the people in the suits will increase. This is to represent that that if we do not make any attempt to save our environment then our planet will age quickly, leading us all closer to death and the destruction of our planet entirely.

The representation about people who are trying to save the environment will include videos of how to help save our environment such as cycling places instead of driving. It will also include videos of people wearing 70s hippie outfits as this is a time well known for trying to save the environment. The start of my music video will have two old people wearing hippie outfits, as the music video goes on, the amount of people in the hippie shots will increase and the age of the people in them will decrease, this is to show that if we all come together and try and save the environment, then we can make our environment healthier which will increase the length of time that we have left on this planet.

The people in my music video wearing hippie outfits will be smiling and making direct eye contact to the camera, they will also be lip syncing, this makes it performative; however, those in suits will not be lip syncing, smiling or making direct eye contact with the camera as making direct eye contact with the audience is used to show that this is ok, but I do not want the audience thinking that it is ok to not save our environment.



The people that I use in my music video are going to be mostly people from my family as there is a large age range, but I will also use some of my friends because they are my age range and if I use people from all different ages then I will be able to encourage more people to try and save our environment.

The different representations in my music video will be age and gender. In the music video you will also be able to notice the different viewpoints that the people have, the businessmen will not take much note of environmental issues such as climate change, whereas the people dressed as hippies will be all for saving the environment and will show the audience how they can save it further.



The narrative in my music video will be about the story of how we can save our planet, or we could leave the planet how it is going at the moment and the consequences that it has.
