Artist and their logo

artist and logo NEA.docx My artist calls himself 'Suburban Dad' because he doesn't want people to know who he is, not even his family. He only sings songs which have a meaning behind and can be used to improve the lives of others. Any money that he receives from his career in music goes to charities that his fans vote for. He has another job so that all of the money that he makes from his musical career can go to charity.

Textual analysis on 2 music videos

‘SOS from the kids’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl0XSWGsTqA ‘SOS from the kids’ is an environmental song protesting for protection of our planet. The music video includes many different children singing and performing, it also contains footage of some of the children at the climate change strike in March 2019. Also in the music video, we see some footage of a couple of the children travelling on trains with their climate change signs an posters, this is presumably the children on their way to the march. In the music video the children are showing their creations of posters and signs in protest against climate change, these have been hand-made which shows they are exploring their curiosity and their potential, meaning that they are putting a lot of effort into resolving the problem. For a large percentage of the music video, we can see that the children are outside, exploring their creative nature, enjoying the presence of the earth; this helps to reinforce their point a...

Copyrights, Permission letter

‘Big yellow taxi’ by Joni Mitchell by released in 1970 by ‘Reprised records’. ‘Reprise Records’ is owned by Warner Records now. The postal address for Warner Records is: 27 Wrights Lane, London. W8 5SW Hello to whoever is reading, I am seeking your permission to use the song ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell as I know that you own the copyrights to it. I would be using it to create a music video to for my A Level coursework for Media Studies which I study at Weald Of Kent Grammar School in Tonbridge. For the coursework we have to create a music video to a protest song. The reason that I chose ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell is because I am very passionate about the environment so I decided to choose a song that I enjoy listening to and can react to due to how much I care for the environment. My music video will only be viewed by a couple of people because it is going to be put on a private YouTube channel. Thank you for taking the time to read...

My Perfect Audience Member

My perfect audience member: is passionate about the environment The song I am creating a music video to is ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell Clothes: My perfect audience member wears environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, industrial hemp and recycled polyester. My perfect audience member wears these materials so that she doesn’t damage the environment as these materials are eco-friendly. She also keeps her clothes for as long as possible and re-wears them regularly so that she does not impact the textile manufacturing in a large way. She also fixes her clothes when they break if possible and she recycles her clothes when she has grown out of them. Often she buys second hand clothes to reduce her environmental impact. Food: My perfect audience member eats lentils as they have a low carbon footprint and they are sources of protein, fibre and some nutrients, just like beans (black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans). My perfect au...

Chosen song for music video

The track that I have chosen for my music video is called ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell. The song is a protest song for the environment. Joni Mitchell wrote the song during her trip to Hawaii when she took a taxi to get to the hotel and then when she got to the hotel, she looked out of her window, saw a magnificent view of green mountains in the distance. Bu then she looked down and saw a “parking lot as far as the eye cold see”, she was devasted so wrote the song. The song was released in April of 1970, since then there have been a few variations of the song. Fpr my music video I am going to use the re-recording which was produced in 2007. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2595abcvh2M The song is about taking things for granted and then missing them when they’re gone; it is also about how people forget the beauty of the environment and they cover it in large unnecessary buildings. These are the lyrics for the song: They paved paradise Put up a parking lot With a...

History of Protest songs

History of Protest Songs A protest song is a song associated with a movement for social change. These social changes include: human rights, feminism, climate change, gun control, anti-war. Protest songs have the power to inform, inspire and unite people. One of the earliest protest song is likely to be “Free America” by Joseph Warren, it was sung by American soldiers back in 1776 when America was declared independent from the United Kingdom. Protest music became   a commonly heard type of music in the early 1900s as after the American Civil War, America became divided by class and race, so people turned to protest music as it helps people realise that they are not alone with how they are feeling.   Protest music has accompanied   periods of progress in America. Protest music is usually about politics, social scientists have been researching the relation between music and politics. Protest music originated from the West, but it has been adopted by differ...

Analysing 3 music videos

Travis Greene ‘Intentional’ music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH3f0ellNv8 Cinematography à During the music video there are many low-angle shots, these can be seen when the singer is performing a performative element of singing or lip syncing. Lots of cross-cutting occurs in this music video, there is one that matches up perfectly with the shot that it transforms into, this is at 1:42. There are some parts of the music video where deep focus has been used to keep both the subject and the background in focus at the same time, they are of the singer dancing on the roof, but not all of them, for example 1:51 has a deep focus. The music video has included some flashbacks of him performing live on stage. This music video has a slight bit of framing, but not much. There is an iris out at the end of the music video, there is also an iris in around the middle of the music video at 1:56. The camera pans and tilts to capture a good short shot of the singer performing. ...
