Chosen song for music video


The track that I have chosen for my music video is called ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell.

The song is a protest song for the environment.

Joni Mitchell wrote the song during her trip to Hawaii when she took a taxi to get to the hotel and then when she got to the hotel, she looked out of her window, saw a magnificent view of green mountains in the distance. Bu then she looked down and saw a “parking lot as far as the eye cold see”, she was devasted so wrote the song.

The song was released in April of 1970, since then there have been a few variations of the song. Fpr my music video I am going to use the re-recording which was produced in 2007.

The song is about taking things for granted and then missing them when they’re gone; it is also about how people forget the beauty of the environment and they cover it in large unnecessary buildings.

I chose to use this song for my music video because it is about environmental concerns, which I am pretty passionate about because being outside is very calming and peaceful. I think it is an important song because it informs people what will happen if we keep building buildings on top of the land – it will get destroyed and we will miss it.

I chose the artist Joni Mitchell because she is “the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century” according to AllMusic, and Rolling Stone called her “one of the greatest songwriters ever”.
